The goal of the project was to create an online system in which Iowa State University students and researchers can more easily and efficiently complete the IRB application form. Institutional Review Board (IRB) is required for any research that involves human subjects and is also intended for publication or conference presentation.

Currently, the application is in a paper-based format and the vigorous reviewing process which requires multiple downloads and prints makes the process difficult and environmentally unfriendly.

The project followed five steps leading to the final design solution:
