TEACHING

My greatest desire is to effectively contribute to the development of others and teaching is paramount. I enjoy every aspect of it, the challenge and excitement it brings; being able to interact and harness creativity and innovation among the community of learning and the world at large. Teaching offers me the opportunity to share my knowledge and expertise with students and I see it as an honor to equip my students with the appropriate skillset and knowledge to be able to contribute to the development of their immediate society through the use of technology and design.

Below are some of the courses I have developed and taught over the years:

IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY
ARTGR/HCI 672A – Graphic Design and Human Interaction
User experience design is vital to the success of a product design and that of companies. This graduate level studio course deploys a Lean-Agile methodology to introduce students to the theory and investigation of experience design as it applies to human interactions in contemporary society and culture. Studio problems may involve such areas as: exhibition design, electronic interface design, wayfinding, package design, and publication design. Students are required to either create or redesign an existing design solution via usability testing. Through Minimum Viable Product (MVP), design iterations (low to high fidelity prototypes) are created to achieve a final design solution.

ARTGR/HCI 589 – Design and Ethics (asynchronous online)
An interdisciplinary graduate level course for students in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) program. The course focuses on issues in ethics and decision-making as they relate to technology, design, design/human research, HCI, and the design industry. Students within this course are presented the opportunity to utilize an ethical framework/theory and human research method to identify a need in HCI pertaining to their respective area of specialization/major and propose a design solution.

ARTGR 470 – Graphic Design Studio V
An undergraduate senior studio course which is focused on advanced design systems as applied to corporate identity and environmental graphic design. Symbology as an integrated component of communication systems. This project-based studio course required students to identify and justify a problem and utilize design principles to create a design solution.

DES 340 – Mobile UX Design
The use of mobile technology is paramount in our society today. It constitutes a major part of our daily lives. However, mobile technologies are constantly evolving with sophisticated features, screen sizes, interface design etc. As a result, this course is designed to equip students within the undergraduate interdisciplinary design program with the basic concept and principles of Mobile UX (user experience) design. Students are required to use Adobe XD or Axure RP to create a high fidelity working prototype and conduct usability testing to determine the effectiveness of the design solution and user experience.

DES 333x – Time-Base Media (Blended Format)
An introduction course to various time-based media tools. Topics include sequencing, storytelling, animation, sound editing, and video production. Student gets the opportunity to learn how to utilize visual elements and design software(Adobe CC) as a medium for communication and artistic expression.

DES 240 – Design Studio
An effective branding serves as a major contributor to the success of a product or service of a company. As a result of this, every aspect of the branding process must be given the needed attention. This course is designed to introduce interdisciplinary design students to the branding design process and how visual communication design can help define the image of a company or product.
